Sandy Buchman MD, CCFP, FCFP
Education Lead, Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, Mount Sinai Hospital

Dr. Sandy Buchman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto and practices as a palliative care physician providing home based palliative and end of life care.

He practiced comprehensive Family Medicine for many years with a special interest in Primary Cancer Care, Palliative Care, HIV/AIDS and Global Health – including volunteer experiences in South America and Africa.

He is the Education Lead at the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, Mount Sinai Hospital. He was President of The College of Family Physicians of Canada, 2011-2012 and The Ontario College of Family Physicians 2005-2006.


Vivian PapaizRN, MN, CHPCN(C), CVAA(C), CCHN(C)
Nipissing University and Canadore College

Vivian is the Program Manager for the Collaborative BScN Program and the RPN to BScN Bridging program with Nipissing University and Canadore College.

As manager of these nursing programs, her interests lie in supporting a strong nursing education for students and has a particular interest in fostering palliative education in the undergraduate program. Vivian is also a faculty member at Georgian College and Coordinator of the International Nursing program. Prior to this Vivian has also held other positions as VON Canada’s national palliative care lead, Regional Practice educator, and manager of nursing and home support programs. Her focus is to support students in the pursuit of nursing education, preparing thoughtful, reflective, creative, critical thinkers for a career of exceptional practice.

Vivian is a member of the Palliative Care Consultants Network of Ontario, The Nipissing Serenity Residential Hospice Board, and the Hospice Palliative Care Ontario (HPCO) Board of Directors. Vivian has her Masters degree in Nursing with a focus on Teaching, Education and Leadership holds three national certifications including palliative care, venous access, and community nursing, and is the 2016 recipient of the Dorothy Ley Award of Excellence in Hospice Palliative Care.
